As a clinic, The Massage Centre has always been focused on delivering quality treatments to serve real life solutions to our trusting clients. Obviously, we are a physical therapy hands-on service provider, and the bulk of our treatment is intended to remedy traumas, tensions, and dysfunctions in muscles and the body’s soft tissues. However, over time we have come to realise that effective treatment involves much more than tissue work. We’ve had to continually invest in our critical thinking skills to know more about massage and how it works. And not forgetting how important it is for you, our client, to understand your condition symptom causes, how a treatment plan works and what else you need to do to feel optimum benefits.

Every week our therapy team studies new symptom conditions and best protocols for how to treat them effectively. Each therapist has a scheduled one-to-one meeting with senior members to enable them to be coached and supported in their development. To improve synergy, we have 3 group zoom calls each week to collectively problem solve challenging cases and to invest our team’s vast experience in our newer therapy members. This ties in with our company values and 3 of our company values are:

  • Client Focus – we don’t have a clinic without you guys.
  • Growth – improving our therapy skills and confidence.
  • Expert – become more, deliver higher value.

Here’s just a summary of what continual professional development courses our team completed from outside training providers in the past couple of months:

Seb – CORE 1 Fascial Release

This treatment method was highly influential in transforming our founder Fran’s treatment result efficacy when he completed CORE over 15 years ago. The fascia is the connective tissue of the body and Seb has been upgrading his skills in remodelling tissue to reverse adverse postural kinks to relieve symptoms by addressing the cause. CORE techniques are used all over the body to balance joint hinge movements so that the skeleton moves with more ease and joy.

Jo – Neuro Kinetic Therapy

Although she still has course work and case studies to complete before she can practice, this training has blown Jo’s mind as to the workings of the human body. The creator of this therapy approach, David Weinstein, developed a process to identify what non symptomatic body part needs to be treated to resolve an active symptom. Again, this treatment addresses symptom causes. It aims to train the motor control centre of the brain to get muscle inhibitor and facilitator pairs to work in harmony and therefore eliminate symptoms of pain.

Abi – Dry Needling

On occasion, no matter how skilled a massage therapist is at pinpointing and releasing deeply held muscle holding patterns there can be some tissues that are resistant to relaxing. And Abi is one of the most skilled! Dry needling involves inserting a medical acupuncture needle into the deeply held tissue to stimulate the brain through connecting neural pathways. This pinpointed stimulation causes the brain to identify the unnecessary contracture of tissue and it responds by melting the tension build-up. Highly skilled hands-on therapists can release 99% of contracted muscles with appropriate pressure, touch, and direction. Abi finds that for chronic, stubborn, and hard to reach tension a dry needle can sometimes unlock the issue and accelerate treatment progress and the benefits that can be enjoyed.

Julian & Heather – Pregnancy Massage

Massage is one of the most intimate healthcare services where the therapist and client get to spend more time together than most other healthcare modules. As therapists we can share in supporting our clients through the good times and through life challenges. Pregnancy massage is a specialist service and Julian and Heather wanted to qualify so that they can support their clients safely and effectively through the bumps and joys that pregnancy can involve. Remedial massage therapists are keenly aware of posture and bio-mechanical forces upon the body, and they make the best pregnancy massage therapists. We find that periodic sessions can really help in keeping the pelvic balance neutral to minimise any negative effects of growing a larger bump.

These are just a snapshot of recent CPD courses completed by The Massage Centre therapy team. We endeavour to continually upgrade our knowledge and abilities so that we can best serve you, our clients.
