Nicholas Brown is now deep into a training programme to climb Mount Aspiring in New Zealand this December. He came to The Massage Centre some months back to get the stiffness resulting from intense training eased out of him. He's now a regular client and seems to have adopted our Australian masseurs, having spent time as a client of Sam's, he's now with Loren.

Claire's Simple Steps for Vibrant Health
My name is Claire Boxer and I am a holistic, remedial and sports massage therapist, I enjoy excellent health and have much joy and happiness in my life. But about five years ago I would have described my health and happiness as being boringly average.
Recovering & Maintaining Optimal Health
Besides stress management, nutrition and fitness (clearly extremely important to anybody's health), body work in the form of massage, acupuncture, osteopathy, chiropractic, even kinesiology or other natural treatments should be considered as an essential part of maintaining or recovering optimal health and bodily function.
1. Have the person sit down in front of you on a stool or a chair that allows access to the back. Feel his/her neck and shoulders to see where the tension needs to be relieved the most. These areas should be given special attention.
2. With one hand on each shoulder muscle (up next to the neck) start gently squeezing and rub the muscle. Extend your thumbs down towards the back a bit while doing this. Check with the person to make sure you are not applying too much pressure. Remember, you want him/her relaxed not in pain from your actions.
Treating Muscle Spasms and Cramps
Defining the Problem of Muscle Spasms and Cramps
Whenever a muscle or even small fibres of the muscle contract without you consciously making it happen, it is known as a muscle spasm. When the muscle or fibres that have contracted sustain this contraction, the spasm becomes a fully-fledged cramp. Muscle spasms and cramps vary in intensity from person to person and from situation to situation.
How can Pregnancy Massage Help?
Studies have shown that pregnancy massage can reduce anxiety, relieve symptoms of depression, soothe those bothersome joint pains and muscle aches and even improve the outcome of your labour, giving your new born child the best start to life.
Pregnancy massage is able to relax built-up muscle tension, improve the lymphatic system as well as blood circulation. These results are accomplished by applying mild pressure to the body's various muscle groups.
The Health Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage uses a more forceful approach. The slow, forceful technique is used to target those layers of connective tissue and muscle that are deeper in the body. This is usually the method chosen for the relief of damage due to injuries.
Deep muscle massage concentrates on realigning the deeper layers of muscle. While many of the movements are the same, the strokes are slower and deeper.
