Reflexology FAQs

Do I need a medical referral?

You do not normally require a medical referral to see a Remedial Massage Therapist. It is recommended however to advise your Medical Practitioner that you are receiving remedial massage treatment.

What happens on my first visit?

You should bring with you any referrals, x-rays, or medical reports that relate to your problem. You maybe asked about your general health and history of your problem. You may also be asked to define areas, which are painful, or movements that are being restricted. You will also be asked about your problem, its course, its nature, and then decide on the most appropriate treatment.

Tips for Discussion:

If pressure is too hard or too light, ask to have it changed. Let your practitioner know if you are too hot or too cold. Pinpoint areas of pain. Breathing deeply can help you get the most out of a massage.

Who should avoid Massage?

Massage, is not advised for anyone with an infectious skin disease, a rash, or an unhealed wound. It is also wise to avoid massage immediately after surgery, or if you are prone to blood clots.

Circulatory ailments such as phlebitis or varicose veins prelude the use of massage and it should never be performed directly over bruises, inflamed or infected injuries, or in areas of bleeding or heavy tissue damage, or at the actual site of recent fractures or sprains.

Massage, is not recommended for cancer patients immediately after chemotherapy or radiation therapy. While there is no evidence that it actually prompts cancer to metastasise to other parts of the body, the theoretical possibility exists. (It is preferred that you bring a letter of referral from your Medical Practitioner to be on the safe side.) Avoid massage over any known tumour and in any area of a recent surgical incision.

Is this type of bodywork done fully clothed?

You lie on a massage table partially clothed. At all times your body is draped by warm towels and the only part of your body that is exposed, is the part that is being worked upon.

How much does it cost?

The cost of a 1 hour massage is £65.00. I always recommend having the one-hour treatment, as this is more beneficial for the whole of the body, rather than half hour. However, we also offer 30min, 45min, 75min and 90min treatments. The cost for the half hour massage is £45.00.

How can I pay?

Payment is due after receiving the treatment. Payment can be made by cash, debit/credit card or cheque.

What is your cancellation policy?

We at The Massage Centre have a cancellation policy that requires you to give at least 24 hours notice on cancellation of your appointment. Otherwise, you will be charged the standard fee.

Do you have a waiting room?

Yes, there is a waiting area in The Massage Centre.

Can another person sit on a massage treatment?

Providing that the person who is getting the massage is comfortable with that situation yes, it is ok.

Are children able to receive massage?

Yes, in most cases, children enjoy massages the same as the adults do. I always insist that there be a parent present during the treatment. During the past years, I have found that massaging children helps them to settle down with schoolwork and prepares them for exams.

Confidentiality?

We at The Massage Centre have a very strict enforcement in confidentiality. Your information remains strictly private and confidential.

Do you have any tips for after my Massage?

After your massage, drink lots of water to further release toxins from your body. Plan to take the first 20 minutes after a massage lightly. Take a warm shower or bath after a massage; this will help with your recovery

FAQs – REFLEXOLOGY

What happens at an appointment?

On the first visit there will be a preliminary talk to determine your present and past health and lifestyle. Then you will be asked to remove your shoes and socks and whilst sitting in a comfortable position your feet will be massaged. There is no need to worry about ticklish feet, as the experience is much deeper than this. The reflexologist will access the different points on the feet and some of these may feel a little sensitive. Any discomfort is fleeting and an indication of congestion or imbalance in a corresponding part of the body. It is generally a pleasant and soothing experience. The whole process as well a being healing is also very relaxing and people often doze off.
Treatments normally take one hour, of which the last 20 minutes can be taken up with Brazilian Toe massage followed by an invigorating foot massage.

How many treatments do I need?

The number of treatments needed usually depends on how long your body has been out of balance, however, some people simply require a periodic treatment.

How will I feel after a treatment?

Following a treatment you should feel thoroughly cleansed and invigorated. A feeling of calm and well being is experienced as stress and tension are relieved and blood circulation is improved, leaving all systems of your body functioning fully and within their natural equilibrium. It is possible that you may experience feeling mildly lethargic, nauseous, or tearful, but this is transitory and is a part of the healing process.
